Associate – Litigation and Dispute Resolution

Job Purpose

Our client, a full-service service law firm in Nairobi which focuses on corporate, commercial, conveyancing, banking, real estate, civil litigation law and arbitration is looking for an Associate-Litigation and Dispute Resolution to join their team.

The Associate –Litigation and Dispute Resolution will report to the Managing Partner and Head of the Department of Litigation and Dispute Resolution.

Roles and Responsibilities

  1. Conducting thorough investigations and review into client matters, including performing Legal research and analysis and sourcing and giving expert advise
  2. Drafting and filing of Pleadings in the appropriate Courts
  3. Conducting thorough discovery and forming a position of the case. Drafting Solid discovery request and responding to discovery requests and controlling the flow of information regarding the case
  4. Attendance of any litigation matters in court
  5. Attending to any mediation, hearings and settlement conferences when appropriate
  6. Update of court dates and provide the Legal Assistant with any information to be sent to the client for their records as well as undertake official communication on the status of matters.
  7. Legal research, drafting, review and filing of pleadings, legal opinions and legal documents
  8. Give accurate and timely counsel to executives in legal matters
  9. Oversee service of pleadings and necessary documents on advocates and clients
  10. Oversee debt collection matters as may be assigned from time to tome
  11. Attendance of client meetings
  12. Oversee and facilitate negotiation of matters for out of court settlement
  13. Legal advisory and compliance in Litigation & Dispute Resolution Matters
  14. Client Care
  15. File management on assigned clients and tracking of the matters in court

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in law (LLB)
  • Diploma in law from Kenya school of law
  • At least 2-3 years’post qualification experience in litigation and dispute resolution
  • In-depth understanding of court processes and procedures as well as relevant concepts of dispute resolution
  • Ability to carry out legal research
  • Highly analytical and meticulous
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and an ability to communicate clearly with a range of people from diverse backgrounds
